isn't Satanism and Wiccans don't believe in Satan. Since I know this,
for not emailing me and telling me what I already know.)
It seems like a ridiculous question. It's like asking if you
can be a "Hindu Muslim", a
"Shinto Zoroastrian" or as Moe Howard might have said..."a highly
Let's define some terms:
Christianity: The 2000 year old religion of Jesus Christ the
Son of God, based on the Bible as sacred scripture, and professed by
Eastern, Roman Catholic, and Protestant bodies. Teaches the afterlife
of either a heaven or hell with no earthly rebirth. Teaches an eventual
bodily resurrection. Believes in 10 commandments, including worshiping
one God only and exclusively. There are no other acceptable deities!
Teaches sex outside of marriage is a
sin. Teaches Jesus died and was resurrected to atone for the sins of
the faithful. Christians believe in good and evil. Christians believe
there is a father of lies, called the devil, Satan.
Wicca: A religion created in 1950, by a man named Gerald
Gardner who followed a flophouse junkie (Aleister Crowley) and
psychotic who thought he was the Anti-Christ. Gardner basically created
Wicca to be tied up and beaten by strong willed women (read Crafting
The Art of Magic by Adian Kelly). Wicca teaches reincarnation and an
eternity in Summerland (plagiarized from Spiritualism). Wicca practices
magic and worships Pagan gods and
goddesses. No concept of sin, and no need for atonement. Teaches use of
magic spells and the occult. Wiccans have no
commandments...just a more or less hedonistic creed "An' it harm
none, do what ye will". Wiccans believe in good and "spiritual void".
Wiccans claim they don't believe in a devil or Satan.
Am I the only one that sees a conflict here???
You can't just take one theology and smack it down on top of
another theology and say "Meh. Close enough"! The writers who created
the Judeo-Christian god commanded that his followers
worship no other gods. Period. That includes any smaller gods you may
think he is comprised of. When early Christians wanted to elevate Jesus
and his mysterious helper the Holy Ghost
they crammed them together with YHVH rather than simply have three
deities. Christians believe God as the Trinity is 1x1x1=1 NOT
1+1+1=3. Yes, the Trinity is a complex concept and
some people have a hard time grasping it (impossible things are like
that). But to some it kind of makes sense that the god that created the
entire Universe would be a more complicated form than mere humans could
understand. at any rate, it's just one god, not many gods and goddesses.
Wiccans think you can worship any old goddess/god/idol that
floats your boat. The Judeao-Christian religion, one triune God
(1x1x1=1). If you worship God alongside a goddess, then
you are breaking the commandment to worship only God and denying his
existence as the only God. It's like saying "I'll listen to you, but
only when I feel like it."
SO WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT IT?
...but first, let me answer your anticipated arguments.
"What about Mary?"
Mary isn't a goddess! Even if you believe that she was based
on some older pagan goddess (she isn't, she was an actual living
person) , the Virgin Mary is not a goddess. She is a mortal. That is,
in fact, part of the point about Mary: she is the mortal mother of a
divine child. Worshiping her as a goddess is against Christianity.
Worshiping her as a mortal is against Wicca (even Wiccans say this!),
because the god and goddess of Wicca are
complementary and equal. All-knowing, all-powerful God and mortal woman
are in no way equal!
"What about the Gnostic goddess Sophia?"
What about her? She's a heathen Greek goddess (idol). Some
branches of Gnosticism possibly worshiped Sophia (some, but not all).
Gnosticism was branded a HERESY by the Christian
Church, so calling any Gnostic belief "Christian" is like saying
worshiping the Hindu goddess Kali is part of Judaism! It just doesn't
Many people into Wicca seem hung up on gender. God may be
referred to in the masculine in the Bible, but he isn't a "man" they
way human men are, & the Bible even says so.
Some occultists are under the erroneous impression that the
Bible somehow gives approval to
all the things Wiccans do...when nothing could be further from the
"Uh, they took a lot of stuff out of the Bible"
The Dead Sea Scrolls shows the Old Testament books of the
Bible have remained basically
unchanged for thousands of years! Not hundreds, thousands! The earliest
Magdalene fragment...shows the New Testament is also unchanged. Even if
we didn't have the
New Testament manuscripts, we could rebuild 90% of it from the writings
of the early church
fathers that have survived. They never would have condoned combining
Wicca and Christianity.
"Um, they left hundreds of books out of the Bible, so you
don't know what you're talking
The books they left out were spurious books, like one that
was an obvious rewording of
Andrew and The Lion! The early fathers of the church weren't stupid.
"Ever hear of the Dead Sea Scrolls? The Constantine and
Catholic Church left them out of
The Dead Sea Scrolls weren't discovered until 1947. The Pagan
Roman Army wiped them out
before Christianity was legalized in Rome. The writers were a group of
Essene, a Jewish
sect. They contain no New Testament documents. The Dead Sea Scrolls are
collection of books
that contain the books of the Old Testament, and all of those books are
in the Bible. Far
from proving the Bible has been altered, the Dead Sea Scrolls prove the
Bible has remained
unchanged for thousands of years! They also contain documents such as
the rules and
regulations of the Qumran Essene (who were Jews, not Christians)
community, which don't
pertain to anyone except them.
"Hey, what about the Gnostic books, like the Gospel of
The Gnostics were heretics who lived 400 years after Jesus.
Gnosticism was a Pagan-esque
rebellion against Christianity. This is why the Nag Hammadi was "left
out "of the Bible as
well. You might as well say the Book of Mormon and the Koran
were left out of the Bible,
using this logic. When the heretic Marcion compiled a list of books for
his "Gnostic canon"
in the 3rd century he doesn't mention the Gospel of Thomas...that's
because it hadn't been
"Jesus loves me! Haven't you ever read not to judge! Look at
the woman that was about to be
Yes, Jesus loves you, but love is a two way street. Would you
love someone if they
constantly stabbed you in the back? The Bible says "judge not lest you
be judged", meaning
not to sit in continual judgment. The very next verses of the Sermon on
the Mount instructs
followers to judge whether something is good or evil, and avoid the
evil. Jesus did forgive
a woman guilty of adultery, but he also told her "Go and sin no more",
not "Hey, an' if it
harms none...hubba hubba hubba!"
NOW... LET"S LOOK AT WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS:
Don't take my word for it...here are the Bible verses I found
that don't jibe with what
"xtian Wiccans" believe. Get a Bible, look them up for yourself. Get a
glass of milk and
some cookies, because it's going to take you a while.
Verses of The Bible That Condemn Worship of Other gods/idols,
and verses that affirm
followers of YHVH worship him alone Before you think you can worship
any old deity that
floats your boat, maybe you better read these:
Genesis 35:2-4, Exodus. 20:3-5&23, 22:20, 32:8-29
(golden calf, Egyptian idol Aipis, god of
You'd have to really ignore a lot of the Bible to get around
all these verses!!! You might
want to blow the dust off of your and actually read it! Get a good
commentary such as Adam
Clarke's Commentary. An application called "E-Sword" is free and very
useful for studying
the Bible. You can even get things like Strong's numbers and Scofield's
notes (these are good
things. If you can dismiss this much of the Bible, you obviously don't
believe in it as a
holy scripture. If you think Christians worshipped goddesses, practiced
magic, and did
anything they dad burn well pleased, but a bunch of spoiled sports took
it all out, then you
don't believe the Judeao-Christian God, YHWH, has any power to preserve
His word. If He
can't do that, why bother with Him? Chuck Him! Get rid of Him and just
Wicca. Or a Voodooist, or a Scientologist, or a Thelemite. Why bother
with YHWH if He can't
even do that?
Of course...some people would say all religions are man made
and so it doesn't really
matter. So you be the judge.
