A Comparison Of Morality From

The Religions From Around The World

Much of what occultists of all varieties think about Christian history simply does not hold up when examined closely. People who dislike Christianity are publishing books revising history, in essence making Western Civilization a one dimensional battle between the Pagans and Gnostics, who were super intelligent, scientific, spiritually enlightened,  tolerant, and peace loving feminists, and the Christians, who were slack jawed, misogynistic, superstitious, cruel and violent thugs. These ideas are the product of 19th century humanism, of people like Frazer and Nietzsche who were projecting their own dislike of Christianity.  If you pay attention, you will see how these ideas have seeped into mainstream books, movies, and television. I could write several books just refuting many of these ideas, but instead I'll do my best to briefly refute some of them.

A reason many people get into the occult is because they feel Christianity has too many rules...about sex in particular. Their knowledge of the other religions of the world is actually rather limited, and occultists tend to think Christianity is a repressive religion designed to ruin their day. But is Christianity really any more strict than the rest of the world’s religions? Let’s take a look.

HINDUISM Hinduism has about 900 million followers at this writing. A very old Pagan religion predominant in India and also found in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Unlike Wicca, Hinduism may actually go back 10,000 years! An idol discovered by archeologists in the Indus valley in the 1980’s dated around 10,000 years old resembles the Hindu idol Shiva. This means they practiced a male oriented Hinduism and not Wicca as suggested by some Wiccan authors, just as most of them still do today. Hinduism has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. While many occultists (Wiccans in particular) may denounce sin and talk about “karma”, what they fail to realize is negative karma is simply the punishment as a result of sin according to Hinduism! Hinduism teaches the existence of a Hell like place where souls await reincarnation, and a Heaven like place where good souls await reincarnation. Hinduism believes in the existence of demons and the concept of evil. Hinduism believes in the concept of sexual morality, and forbids adultery, fornication,  incest (Laws of Manu 9.95, 101, Bhagavad Gita 1.40-42), homosexuality, bestiality, pornography, and prostitution. Hindu laws are severe concerning adultery. Hindus believe adultery would lead to confusion of castes, degradation of family values and social disorder.  The Hindu law books treat differently the acts of adultery involving different caste women.

“A man should not think incontinently of another's wife, much less address her to that end; for such a man will be reborn in a future life as a creeping insect. He who commits adultery is punished both here and hereafter; for his days in this world are cut short, and when dead he falls into hell.”
Manusmriti: Chapter 8 353. For by (adultery) is caused a mixture of the castes (varna) among men; thence (follows) sin, which cuts up even the roots and causes the destruction of everything.
The higher the caste of the woman and lower the caste of man,  the greater was the severity of punishment. 359. A man who is not a Brahmana ought to suffer death for adultery (samgrahana); for the wives of all the four castes even must always be carefully guarded.

In ancient times, some of the rulers practiced polygamy, but the practice was abandoned centuries ago. Children are sometimes married in pre-arranged marriages, but they do not live together or have sex until they are adults. Exposure of children to sex is forbidden. Even though some branches of Hinduism are barabaric enough to practice Human Sacrifice, it still has commandments against murder. Hinduism teaches abortion is murder. Kundalini yoga or “Tantric sex” is part of Kali worship, and generally considered to be “black magic”.  Hindus have strict dietary laws which forbid the eating of pork or beef  (many Hindus are vegetarians) , onions, garlic, and drinking of wine.(Confirmed by The Global Hindu Electronic Network) Hinduism teaches it is the only true religion. Westerners seem to have a misguided idea that Hinduism is very tolerant and accepts other religions, but this isn’t the case. People of other religions are persecuted in India by Hindus, where authorities tend to look the other way.

While many if not most  Neopagans/Wiccans seem to assume all Pagan religions are automatically feminist just because they have goddess idols among their pantheons, nothing could be further from the truth. Hindu societies are very chauvinistic and not matriarchic. Consult The Genocide of Women in Hinduism by Sita Agarwal (who is a feminist and atheist no less) to see how laughable ideas like those of Moura’s are. (13)

“Everyone has heard the Brahmin male propaganda that the customs of sati, dowry, female infanticide and all other social suppression of women in India is the result of `social degeneration', `corruption', or still worse, `foreign Christian or Muslim influence'. This is all one big lie designed to fool women. The reasons are far more deep-rooted, and are fully the result of Brahmin [the Hindu priest caste] male conspiracies. The real reason for the sad state of Indian women is the continuation [of Hinduism]... Rather than being due to some kind of `corruption', the ghastly practices of sati, female infanticide, dowry and related acts are actually enforced by Vedic and Hindu scriptures. Although this may sound like some Christian or Muslim propaganda, it is not... Far from being `enlightened' and `progressive', Brahmanism is in fact the very fountain of the evils of sati, female infanticide, devadasism and dowry.” (From the introduction of The Hindu Genocide of Women by Sita Agarwal ),

Hinduism is very rigid and autocratic. Indian society is divided into a system of castes. The caste system condemns those in the lowest level, known as the untouchables, to a life of drudgery and hopelessness. The caste system is very racist, too. The Bramhmins, the highest caste, are lights skinned. The darker the skin, the lower the caste.

BUDDHISM  It has a concept of sin and a need for atonement, and also teaches the doctrine of Karma, like Hinduism. Buddhism believes in a Hell like place where souls await reincarnation, and a Heaven like place where good souls await reincarnation. Buddhism believes in the existence of demons and the concept of evil. Buddhism believes in the concept of sexual immorality (Sutta Nipata 815), and forbids adultery (Dhammapada 309-10,  Sutta Nipata 123) and incest, which is a universal taboo. Homosexuality is condemned as well “The bodhisattva does not approach the five kinds of unmanly men (i.e., homosexuals) in order to be friendly with or close to them.” Lotus Sutra 14.  Bestiality, pornography, exposure of children to sex ,and prostitution are al forbidden. Buddhism has commandments against murder. Buddhism teaches life begins at conception and that abortion is murder(Majjhima Nikàya I 4. 8.Mahàtan-hàsankhayasuttaü). If the Dalai Lama ever told Hollywood celebrities his true feelings on sexual immorality, drug use, and abortion he would become an outcast overnight! Buddhism teaches vegetarianism and that eating meat has negative Karmic consequences, and also teaches to abstain from intoxicants. However, not all Bhuddists follow this rule closely, and Asian Bhuddist celebrations (weddings in particular) often have several meat courses and lots of beer and champagne.  Beliefs among sects vary, and there are many unwritten superstitions practiced as part of Buddhist religion, such as the burning of “ghost money” - - play money burned in the belief that it will buy off evil spirits. Bhuddism also teaches it is the only true religion. Bhuddism teaches followers to be contenet with what life hands them and not complain, which is why many sociologists and political scientists think Communism was able to gain such a foothold in Asian countries. While some Bhuddists are tolerant of other religions, this is not always the case. In Thailand in the 1920's, several nuns were excuted by Bhuddists because they would not renounce Jesus. During the Boxer rebellion, Isa Chu was executed by Bhuddists for refusing to worship Bhudda.

TAOISM Founded by a legendary figure known as Lao Tzu. Primary book is a document titled The Tao Te King. Religion of China older than Budhism.  Taoism teaches it’s followers to live a path of right living known as Tao (meaning “the way”).  Taoism has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. The five precepts of Taoism are No Killing; No Stealing;, No Sexual Misconduct;  No False Speech, and No Taking of Intoxicants. Sexual relations outside of marriage are considered sins. “Do not approach thy neighbor's wife or maids.”( Tract of the Quiet Way) Taoism believes in a Hell like place where souls await reincarnation, and a Heaven like place where good souls await reincarnation. Toaism believes in the existence of demons and the concept of evil. Taoism believes in the concept of sexual immorality, and forbids adultery and fornication (Tract of the Quiet Way).  The third precept of Taoism is specific that only sexual relations are between a married man and woman, and forbids masturbation, incest, homosexuality, bestiality, pornography, exposure of children to sex, and prostitution. In fact, the original commentary on this precept says “”Even if a man and a woman are married to each other, if they have intercourse too frequently, that is also considered Sexual Misconduct.. Buddhism has commandments against murder. Buddhism teaches abortion is murder. Taoism teaches that only true religion.

JAINISM Religion of India, created to protest Hinduism’s severe caste system and heavy handed tactics of Brahmins. It’s basically Hinduism without the idols. Jainism has a concept of sin and a need for atonement, and also teaches the doctrine of Karma and reincarnation, similar to Hinduism, and although Jainism does not believe in a god of any kind. Jainism believes that each human being is free to work out his own salvation (you read that right, salvation).  Jainism believes in the existence of demons and the concept of evil.   Jainism teaches sexual immorality is a sin. “A wise man has nothing to do with lust.  Lust is nothing but death, and lack of it is serenity.  How can one who perceives this indulge in wanton behavior? “(Acarangasutra 2.61) It stresses non-violence to seintinet beings, being truthful, Non-stealing, no sexual immorality, restriction of travel, discouarging speaking careless of others, taking life even in self defense, abtain from owning any weapons and refrain from "having an evil influecne". A jain is expected to meditate (samayika) at least 48 unbroken minutes everyday, three times a day if possible. Jains are expected to set aside one day a week to be more serious their vows and meditation. On that day the Jain is expected to "live as a monk" for 24 hours; touching no food, drink, ornaments, scents or weapons and remaining celibate while using only three cloths by day and two by night. People who wish to reach a "higher" spiritual stage must live even more dedicated lives with more commandments, including refraining from ever eating uncooked vegtables, to refrain from sex with his own wife and "never to scent his body so as to seduce her", and eat only leftovers. Jainism believes in the concept of sexual immorality (Acarangasutra 2.61), and forbids adultery, incest, homosexuality, exposure of children to sex , bestiality, pornography, and prostitution. is forbidden. Laymen in Jainism (meaning everyone who isn’t a monk or nun) are expected to take 12 vows which include Jainism teaches abortion is murder. Jainism recognizes four sources of karma, namely, attachment to things of this life, such as food, clothing, lodging, women, and jewels;  giving in to anger, pride, deceit and greed; uiting the body, mind and speech to worldly things; and also false belief (in other words, believing in other religions, hence. Jainism teaches it is the only true religion.). Jain monks must live in such a way that they will never do any harm to any living beings at all, including not interfering with insects that bite them such as mosquitos, lice, or fleas.

SIKHISM An Indian religion created as a combination of Hinduism and Islam. Sikhism has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. Sikhism believes in a Hell like place where evil souls will be punished (including those people who rejected Sikhism), and a Heaven where good souls (all Sikhs, of course) will be rewarded. Sikhism believes in the existence of demons and the concept of evil. Sikhism believes in the concept of sexual morality, and forbids adultery (Adi Granth, Dhanasari, M.5, p. 672) , incest, homosexuality, bestiality, pornography, and prostitution. Punishment for sexual immorality is severe, including the death penalty. “The philanderer lusting after numerous women does not give up seeking in others' homes. What he does daily only brings regrets--In sorrow and greed he is shriveled up.”( Adi Granth, Dhanasari, M.5, p. 672).

ISLAM An amalgam religion, centered around the Pagan Arab moon idol Allah, who was re-written by Mohammed to appear as the god of Christians and Jews in the Koran. Even though the Koran may speak of Biblical figures of Moses and Abraham and even Jesus, it doesn’t mean they share the same God as Christians and Jews. It’s no different than if you wrote a book about Zues and inserted the names of Biblical figures in it. Islam has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. Islam believes in a Hell like place where evil souls will be punished (including people who rejected Islam), and a Heaven where good souls (all Muslims) will be rewarded. Islam believes in the existence of the Devil, Shaitan, demons and the concept of evil. Islam believes in the concept of sexual immorality, and forbids fornication (Qur'an 25.68-69) adultery (Qur'an 17.32), incest, homosexuality (Qur'an 29.28-29), bestiality, pornography, and prostitution. Punishment for sexual immorality is severe, including the death penalty. The Koran allows men to marry up to four wives, but most Muslims don’t practice polygamy today.  Despite it’s brutal and bloody image, Islam has commandments against murder. Islam teaches abortion is murder. Islam teaches it is the only true religion, and that only Muslims go to Heaven and non-Muslims go to Hell. Followers of Islam are very intolerant of other religions in countries where it is the dominant religion. Non-Muslims are often bribed to convert, and when this fails are threatened with murder or assaulted into joining. There have been many cases of Christians being killed by Muslims. One of the most publicized attacks in recent years was a Church in Pakistan that was bombed during an Easter service in 2003.

ZOROASTRIANISM The state religion of Persia until it was crushed by Islamic invaders. Very few Zoroastrians live in Iran today, most live in India.  Zoroastrianism has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. Zoroastrianism believes in a Hell like place where evil souls will be punished (including people who rejected Zoroastrianism), and a Heaven where good souls (all Zoroastrians) will be rewarded. Zoroastrianism believes in the existence of the Devil, Ahriman, demons and the concept of evil. The Book of Arda Viraf, describes 85 punishments wicked souls receive in Hell and specifies the sins that occasion them. Punishment for sexual immorality is said to be severe, like in Islam. Fornication,  adultery; homosexuality, theft, lying, laziness, vanity, excessive grief, miserliness, withheld goodness, perjury, deceit, slander, extortion, making false covenants, breaking promises, apostasy, sorcery and profanity neglect or abuse of one’s spouse or children, and murder. Zoroastrianism teaches abortion is murder. Zoroastrianism teaches it is the only true religion and does not allow converts to join.

CONFUCIANISM Didn’t really start out as a rligion, but as a system of ethics. 200 years after his death, Confucius was made “Emperor of Heaven”. In many Asian countries, Confucianism was combined with Bhuddism and Taoism. The Bhuddism of Vietnam for instance is strobgly influenced by Confucianism. Confucianism  has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. Confucianism believes in a Hell like place where souls await reincarnation, and a Heaven like place where good souls await reincarnation. Confucianism  believes in the existence of demons and the concept of evil. Confucianism  believes in the concept of sexual morality, and forbids adultery, fornication,  incest, homosexuality, bestiality, pornography, and prostitution. In ancient times, some of the rulers practiced polygamy, but the practice was abandoned centuries ago. Children are sometimes married in pre-arranged marriages, but they do not live together or have sex until they are adults. Exposure of children to sex is forbidden. Confucianism believes it the only true religion.

SHINTOISM The Pagan religion of Japan. Shintoism involves worship of gods and goddesses (idols) and until 1945, taught the Emperor of Japan was a god. It was only after Japan’s defeat during WWII, when General Douglas MacArthur forced Emperor Hirohito to sign a document stating he was not a god and travel the country of Japan to reinforce the idea that the belief was finally abandoned. Prior to this, Japanese military men had been taught to believe that it was an honor to die in battle for the Emperor, and that their souls would go directly to Heaven. Many historians have noted that Pagan Shintoism’s concept of the Emperor as god made  the Kamikaze suicide missions possible, and such missions probably would never have happened otherwise. Shintoism has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. Shintoism believes in a Hell like place where souls await reincarnation, and a Heaven like place where good souls await reincarnation. Shintoism  believes in the existence of demons and the concept of evil. Shintoism teaches the concept of sexual immorality, and forbids adultery, fornication,  incest, homosexuality, bestiality, pornography, and prostitution. While prostitution, pornography and other immoral things go on in modern day Japan, these things are condemned by Shinto leaders, and people who engage in such activities are considered sinners in need of repentance! In ancient times, some of the rulers practiced polygamy, but the practice was abandoned centuries ago. Exposure of children to sex is forbidden. Shintoism believes it the only true religion.

JUDAISM The religion of the tribes of Israel, thought to be at least 5,000 years old. Judaism has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. In both pre-Mosaic Judaism (the era of the Patriarchs), and Mosaic Judaism,  sins were atoned for through animal sacrifices. Judaism teaches followers to obey 10 Commandments, namely, to serve the God YHVH only, to make no idols, to keep the Sabbath Day holy, to not steal, not kill, not slander, to not commit adultery, to covet things belonging to others, and to honor one’s parents. The Mosaic law gave very specific dietary laws and rules of how to conduct business and everyday life that were needed to survive in the harsh environment of the desert. While Judaism doesn’t believe Satan is the Devil as in Christianity (Jesus revealed Satan fell sometime after Job) it does teach the existence of demons such as Lilith, Rasheph, Movet, “Hairy Demons”, and also the concept of evil. Judaism teaches the need for sexual purity , and forbids adultery, fornication,  incest, homosexuality (Leviticus 18.22), bestiality, pornography, and prostitution. In ancient times, some of the rulers practiced polygamy, but the practice was abandoned centuries ago. Exposure of children to sex is forbidden. Judaism teaches that YHVH is the only real God, ad thus, Judaism is the only true religion. Judaism does not teach an afterlife for the soul, but that the soul dies with the body, and that both soul and body will be resurrected on Judgement Day. The Cabala is

BAH'AI Tries to embrace all religions but is similar in most ways to Islam. Known for its pacifism, Bah’ai had a surge in number by draft dodgers during the Vietnam war. Bah’ai  has a concept of sin and a need for atonement. Bah’ai believes in a Hell like place where souls await reincarnation, and a Heaven like place where good souls await reincarnation. Bah’ai  believes in the existence of demons and the concept of evil. Bah’ai believes in the concept of sexual immorality, and forbids adultery, fornication,  incest, homosexuality, bestiality, pornography, and prostitution. Exposure of children to sex is forbidden. Even though Bah’ai is a sort of synthesis of the world’s religions, it teaches that it is the only true religion.

So after reading what is expected of a follower of any of the world’s religions,  Christianity actually gives an individual more freedom in many ways.  For instance, no one is put to death for adultery in Christian nations, nor are women expected to wear burqas, nor are you forbidden to change professions because you were born into a certain cast. . Some of you may be saying, “But I know a homosexual who’s a Buddhist”, or “I know a Hindu who practices casual sex”. If you know someone like that, guess what? They’re not really practicing what their religion teaches! Hypocrites, backsliders, and slackers can be found in every religion on earth, and aren’t unique to Christianity. I once told my wife and her family (who are Buddhists) that I know an American Buddhist who’s a homosexual. They were shocked and said “He couldn’t possibly be a Buddhist then! Buddha never taught homosexuality was acceptable.” If you’re someone who thinks Christianity is repressive and you dislike it for that reason, you would have to dislike all the major religions of the world (as well many minor ones) as well!

You’ll find the world’s religions have the concept of sin, adultery, fornication, lying, stealing, murder, etc., etc, are all sins.  So then...trying to embrace only certain beliefs and practices of other religions that appeal to you won’t let you off the hook morality wise, either! A person who tries to have a “cafeteria religion” where they pick and choose what they want is trying to have their cake and eat it too. Many occultists follow the idea of “Do What Thou Will” or some variation of it, but none of the major religions of the world would embrace such an idea. Morals have to transcend the individual and benefit the entire group. This is why morality exists, to help people live better lives!

All Religions Simply Can’t Be True

Now some of you will say “Well then, all the world’s religions are the same. I should just pick any of them. It won’t matter.” But it will matter. Each of the world’s religions believes it is the only true religion, and the others re not. It’s impossible to believe all the world’s religions are true, which I realized after I abandoned the occult. For instance, you can’t reconcile Hinduism’s many idols of gods and goddesses with Islam’s belief in only Allah and that idols are abominations. You can’t reconcile Taoism’s belief that it is the only way and Christianity’s belief that Jesus was the only way. You can’t reconcile the reincarnation into the eventual unconsciousness (Nirvana) with Judaism’s belief in a resurrection of the dead and a judgement day. You can’t reconcile Zoroastrianism’s belief in one god with Shintoism’s pantheon of gods and goddesses.

When I began in the occult, I thought that all religions were true, and it didn’t matter what religion a person belonged too. What I realize now looking back is that I really didn’t believe in any of them. What a universalist actually believes is , none of the religions really matter, so don’t take anything they say too seriously. Pick and chose what you like and ignore the stuff you don’t. But this is not what the founders of any of the world’s religions taught!

God would not create mutually exclusive religions that contradict one another in an attempt to get people to believe in Him.  God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor. 14:33).  It is reasonable to believe that there can be an absolute spiritual truth and that not all systems can be true regardless of whether or not they claim to be true.  There must be more than a mere claim. All religions cannot be acceptable to God even if they do teach some truth.  If they cannot all be correct in God’s sight, it cannot be true that all religions lead to God.  It would also mean that some religions are, at the very least, false in their claims to reveal the true God.

Occultists often create a cafeteria religion for themselves where they simply pick out what they like from the word’s religions and ignore the stuff they don’t like. Rosicrucians claim to be Christian mystics, but have idols of Egyptian pharos and queens on their altars. Wicca borrows the endless birth and death cycle from Jainism and even the concept of Karma, but rejects the many doctrines and commandments that it embraces, which include matters of food, sex, and lifestyle. Some Satanists take things out of Taoism, but ignore the commandments that constitute following “the way”.  Neodruid P.E.I Bonewitz has a picture of the Buddhist goddess Kwan Yin on his webpage (which has absolutely nothing to do with Druidism), but lives in a “polyamorous” relationship with more than one woman in violation of Buddhist beliefs. Anton LaVey incorporated texts from the Middle Eastern sect known as the Yezidis, but doesn’t follow any of their beliefs and teachings, such as abstaining from adultery, lying, and violence. Santerios and Brujares often own Buddha statues, but don’t follow Buddah’s teachings concerning abstaining from sorcery. By doing these kinds of things, occultists are basically saying by their actions that they really don’t respect any of these religions.

Why Morality Is Necessary

Wiccans, Neopagans, and most garden variety occultists follow a variation of Crowley’s Do What Thou Wilt, namely , “An’ it harm, none, do what ye wilt”. But this still wouldn’t coincide with the moral thought of the world’s religions! How is an individual supposed to know what does and doesn’t harm? A pedophile for instance, usually doesn’t think he’s harming a child when he molests it. There have been many documented cases where a pedophile’s psychosis convinces them that rather than being victims, the child actually came on to them, and that the child even enjoyed being molested.

Likewise, there have been killers, thieves, embezzlers, etc., who have justified their actions using logic that only makes sense to them. I once worked with a girl, we’ll call her Mary, who claimed a manager had called two female co-workers “ a couple of whores”. The two female co-workers actually went to their boss and questioned her about making the statement, which she denied, since she hadn’t actually said it. The two girls and the boss then confronted the other girl, who then had to admit she lied. The boss asked her why she would make up such a statement, to which the girl replied “Well, I’m sorry, but what else do you call girls who go out with black guys”? In her mind, she was justified to tell lies about someone because of her own racism. In her mind, she wasn’t really harming anyone, just telling what she perceived to be the truth.

This  illustration also shows why the truth can’t be subjective, but it has to be both objective and universal! There can’t be 31 varieties of truth like ice cream! There is such a thing as absolute truth. 2+2 = 4 is a true statement, 2 + 2 = 78,263 is not true. Without the concept of absolute truth, you couldn’t have mathematics...and neither can you have morality.  This is why every religion has rules to define what is moral. The rules are followed so that society as a whole is benefitted, and that individual whims and desires (which could prove harmful to not only the individual but society at large) are negated.

WHICH WAY IS YOUR MORAL COMPASS POINTING???

To a Psychopath, Sociopath, or a Narcisist, they have no concept other people can be harmed. Even good natured people would rationalize the harm they would be doing to others if there were no moral codes. People would say things like "Well, if I take this, no one will be harmed". Or, "Once I get this get this girl drunk and sleep with her, she'll probably thank me in the morning". Too many people think like this already! People are incapable of being impartial or nuetral when making moral decisions. This is why morals have to transend the individual and benefit society as a whole.

Morals were not created just to ruin someone's day!
